Trip to the Herbert Hoover Library and Museum
Included in the 5th grade curriculum is a study of US Presidents. Every 5th grader would visit the library on a bus trip to this rare opportunity.
Fine Arts Day
Northside & Atkinson would like to bring in Missy Vail for a performance at both schools. Missy Vail is from the area, but is well known on the national level winning numerous competitions. It would include 380 students and faculty
Magic School Bus
Children will explore outer space, color, or the inside of the human body in programs presented by the Bettendorf Childrens Museum.
Junior Achievement Exchange City
This is a real-life simulation where students work collaboratively to run their own "city". The trip is a culmination of 5-6 weeks cross curricular instruction.
Trip to Wildlife Prarie Park
Allow all first grade students in the district, including St. Malachy's to visit the park as an extension of a classroom unit.
Environmental/Historical Mississippi River Cruise
Sponsored by the Army Corps of Engineers and the celebration River Cruise Company. Integrates the social studies and science curriculum of the spring quarter for 4th graders.
Celebration
Culminating activity for unit on fractions. A professional cake decorator will demonstrate her craft. Cake decorator, punch, nuts, mints, paper products will be purchased with grant.
Books! Books! Books!
The money will be used to purchase books for small Title 1 guided reading groups at Northside.
Landscape Enhancement
Producing, maintaining, and improving the landscape around the highshool Horticulture, Botany, and Practical Science classes as well as Art classes will participate.
Technology Improvement
The project will be used to purchase three "MIG" welders for the industrial technology area.
Itinerant Teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students
Teach sign language classes afer school and in the evening to teachers and parents. Learning sign language will improve communication and language skills with deaf and hard of hearing students.
French/Spanish Art Institute Trip
The French and Spanish IV and AP classes are planning a field trip to the Chicago Art Institute this fall, in conjunction with an Art Unit of Study.
3C=OIC(Classroom Content Connectivity = "Oh, I See!"
There will be various trips that will enrich classroom instruction and provide students experiences that would be severely limited outside the school setting.
A Light in the Darkness
A touring theatrical presentation will teach students about Anne Frank's life through words of her diary.
Junior Achievement Job Shadow Day
Students spend one day at a job site in Geneseo or in the surrounding community learning about possible careers and how schooling promotes job readiness.
Advanced Placement Vertical Team Training
Pay for fees for expert teacher/consultant, sponsored by the College Board.
Putnam Museum Enrichment
All district K through 5th graders, including St. Malachy's students would participate in curricular programs through the Putnam Muesum.
A Moment in Time: Johnny Reb & Billy Yank
This projet will demonstrate to students the rigors that were endured by soldiers and civilians during our nations darkest hour, The Civil War.
In the Absence of "Humanities"
The purchase of an 8 DVD program series entitled "The Clearvue/eav Art & Music Series, Second Edition" would help the high school staff supplement lesson plans "In the Absence of Humanities".
Non-Fiction Texts
Awarding of this grant would provide the opportunity to enhance the collection of literary non-fiction books currently available in the J.D. Darnall Library.
Leafs Educated About Drugs Leader Day
This project was designed to replace the DARE program. It provides quality drug and alcohol education for students in the 5th grade.
Fitness for the Future
This program will address teen obesity. It will offer interested students an after school program where healthy eating and exercise are stressed.
Medieval Times Field Trip
All 6th graders after studying the Middle Ages will attend a dinner theatre, Medieval Times in Schaumburg, IL.
Band & Choir trip to see The Lion King, in DesMoines
The 8th grade choir and band annually take a trip to see a Broadway Show. This years trip will be to see The Lion King. Request is to help with bussing costs of $2100.
Coffee Sleaves
The commercial art class will design protective coffee sleeves for Brews & Pegasus. Cost is for Materials & Creative Image's printing fee.
Presentation Boards
The presentation boards will be used over and over by students for hallway exhibits.
