Key Club and Builders Club
KEY CLUB is the High School Service Club and is guided by Teri Minnaert.
BUILDERS CLUB is the Middle School Service Club and is led by Marilyn Bustle.
Builders Club is a service oriented club sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Its primary function is to introduce the concept of volunteerism to Middle School age students and to provide community service to the residents of Geneseo. Some of our projects have been to visit and play games with residents of Geneseo Village and help residents at Hammond Henry extended care pass out candy to trick or treaters.
At Christmas, we sponsor a family by buying Christmas presents. In May, we provide pie to the faculty during Teacher Appreciation week. We make money through the Middle School volleyball concession stand. Students in grades 6-8 are welcome to join. We meet once a month. Meeting dates and times are announced in the school's morning announcements.
Key Club is sponsored by the Geneseo Kiwanis Club. We do a variety of community service projects. (anything that is requested, really) We have a few fundraisers so that we can give money away to organizations that may need it (especially the animal shelter, Growth, Spastics Paralysis Research Foundation)
Some projects:
collecting ink cartridges and used cell phones
walking dogs at animal shelter
raking leaves
making cards for hospitals and nursing homes
make Christmas cards for homes and hospitals
variety of things for St. Judes
Victorian Walk
Attend Kiwanis meetings
Atkinson Heritage Day
Spirit Night at the Basketball game

Selling bandanas/suckers/glo sticks
Bowling for Spastics
Spike It Up
In the Spring we attend a district convention - it includes all of Eastern
Iowa/Illinois

SUPERINTENDENT MESSAGE:
While California previously held the mythical title of “most challenged state”, Illinois has seemingly moved into that first place role. What the General Assembly and our Governor has done to its citizens over the past several years has been called unconscienable. This New York Times article features Comptroller Hynes, who seems to carry the same philosophy as many others, that Illinois cannot “cut” their way out of this deficit…. if “cutting programs” is the only method employed. Online Registration for all returning students will re-open August 2-9, 2010 for parents who missed the original online registration dates. For those returning students with no computer access at home, online registration may be completed in the Middle School computer lab Aug. 9th between the hours of noon and 7 PM.

Public Notice Geneseo Community Unit School District #228 will be conducting a public hearing to hear input regarding a proposed modification of the Illinois School Code for student attendance on certain school holidays in accordance with Section 24-2 of the School Code [105 ILCS 5/24-2]. Public Act 96-640 provides that a school board is authorized to hold school or schedule teachers’ institutes, parent-teacher conferences, or staff development activities on the following legal school holidays: the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln; the birthday of Casimir Pulaski; Columbus Day; and Veterans’ Day. The hearing will be held at the District Office, 209 S. College Avenue, Geneseo, IL on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at 6:30 p.m.
