Language Arts:

• Balanced reading instruction
• The lives of the Letter People literacy program provides phonics and vocabulary support for first grade reading instruction
• Guided reading groups provide opportunities for instruction that develops the use of phonics skills and reading strategies.
• Students read a variety of nonfiction and fiction books at their level, which promotes success and enjoyment of reading.
• The Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program helps students learn to spell words they use most often in their everyday writing.
• Daily Oral Language lessons provide instruction and practice using correct grammar, punctuation, and capitalization.
• The six traits of Writing Program includes instruction and practice using: ideas and content, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions.
